Prof. (Dr.) Kypros Nicolaides

Professor Kypros Nicolaïdes is one of the pioneers of Fetal Medicine. His discoveries have revolutionized Fetal Medicine and is hence known as “Father of Fetal Medicine”. He has trained more than 500 doctors in Fetal Medicine and ultrasound and continues to be contribute and make pregnancy and childbirth safer across the world. Prof Kypros is the Director of Fetal Medicine Research Institute, King’s College Hospital London. He has supervised more than 50 research fellows who obtained PhDs and MDs. He introduced new methods of fetal therapy, including intrauterine blood transfusions for fetal anemia, thoraco-amniotic shunting for drainage of pleural effusions, endoscopic laser surgery for severe twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome and endoscopic tracheal occlusion for diaphragmatic hernia. New methods of screening for fetal abnormalities, including the lemon and banana signs for spina bifida and nuchal translucency for Down’s syndrome which are now the accepted methods of screening throughout the world.

Dr. Mandeep Singh

Dr. Mandeep Singh is a subspecialist in Maternal and has been the Director of Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine Centre at South end University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust since 2014. He has also worked as an honorary consultant at King's College Hospital's (KCH) Harris Birthright research center for Fetal Medicine. He is also a faculty for Kasturba Hospital, manipal and Manipal Academy of higher education.  He has held several management and leadership positions in the NHS and became the Clinical Director of Women's and Children's Services at South end University Hospital, NHS Foundation Trust in 2017. He was later appointed as the First Medical Director for Women’s & Children Division at Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Essex, UK. He earned an MD in Obstetrics and Gynecology from Shivaji University in India, a Diploma in Advanced Obstetric Ultrasound from the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists in the UK, and a Diploma in Fetal Medicine from the Harris Birthright Center for Fetal Medicine in the UK. He is a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (MRCOG).

Dr Mandeep Singh has keen interest in Research and has published numerous research articles in prestigious international publications and has served as a faculty member at several international conferences. His research topics include prevention of preterm delivery, preeclampsia, multiple pregnancy and recurrent pregnancy loss. He is trained in performing diagnostic and therapeutic invasive procedures such as fetoscopic laser separation of placenta , fetoscopic endotracheal occlusion (FETO), fetal blood transfusion, and other diagnostic invasive procedures.

Dr. Marietta Charakida

Senior Clinical Lecturer Consultant in Fetal and Pediatric Cardiology, King's College Hospital,London, United Kingdom
Marietta Charakida is a Senior Lecturer and Consultant in Fetal and Pediatric Cardiology at Evelina Children's Hospital and Kings' College Hospital. She worked previously as an Academic Clinical Lecturer at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London. She provides training for fetal and pediatric cardiology trainees. She has authored several chapters in pediatric and fetal cardiology books. Her research interest focuses on cardiovascular prevention. While working at Harris Birthright Research Institute with Professor Nicolaides, she has established an extensive research program to assess maternal and fetal cardiac function during pregnancy. She has published 141 papers in high-impact factor journals. Her recent publications relate to maternal and fetal cardiac adaptations in pregnancy complications.
Dr Marietta Charakida has joined the Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine and Therapy Centre at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi. She will be running fetal cardiology clinics virtually and strengthen this crucial area of fetal medicine.

Dr. Marta Santorum Perez

Consultant Obstetrician & Specialist in Fetal Medicine, King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust,London, United Kingdom
Dr. Marta Santorum-Perez is a Consultant Obstetrician and a Specialist in Fetal Medicine. She graduated from Santiago de Compostela University Medical School, Spain, in 1996. Dr. Santorum-Perez completed her basic training in Puerta del Mar University Hospital in Spain. She had a special interest in Laparoscopic surgery, she was awarded in 1999 the European Diploma in advanced laparoscopy in gynecology from CICE Clermond-Ferrand University in France. In 2001 she moved to London and became a Research Fellow at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at King's College, under the supervision of Professor Nicolaides. In 2003 she obtained the diploma in Fetal Medicine awarded by the Fetal Medicine Foundation. She was appointed as a Consultant in Obstetrics and Fetal Medicine at King's College Hospital in 2014. Her special clinical interest includes all aspects of Fetal Medicine and ultrasound, with a particular interest in fetal surgery. Her extensive laparoscopic and Fetal Medicine expertise enabled her to perform the UK's first fetoscopic spina bifida repair. She also works privately at the Fetal Medicine Centre in Harley Street, London.

Dr Marta Santorum has joined the Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine and Therapy Centre at Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi and will be performing fetoscopic surgical procedures including spina bifida repair.

Dr. Tessa Homfray

Consultant in Medical Genetics Royal, Brompton and Harefield hospitals, NHS,London, United Kingdom

Dr. Homfray is a Consultant in medical genetics, including dysmorphology. Dr. Homfray graduated with an MBBS in 1983 and went on to gain a DCH in 1988. In 1991 she was awarded a Diploma in Genetics from Great Ormond Street Hospital and became a registrar in medical genetics in the same year. She has a heavy clinical workload resulting in extensive clinical experience and requests to work at other trusts. Dr. Homfray became a consultant in medical genetics at St George's in 1998, at King's College Hospital in 2004, and Brompton Hospital in 2010.

She has clinical experience in all areas of clinical genetics, but has special interest in the genetics of cardiac disease and fetal medicine. She also has an interest in the genetics of cardiomyopathy and arrhythmias in childhood, as well as how new technologies are introduced to identifying genetic diseases. Dr Homfray has a very busy clinical practice, not only working at the Trust, but also St George’s University Hospital and The Harris Birthright Unit, Kings College Hospital London.

Dr Tessa Homfray has recently joined the fetal medicine team at Burjeel Hospital and support the Fetal Medicine team at Kypros Nicolaides Fetal Medicine Centre, Burjeel Medical City, Abu Dhabi.
